ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ವೆನ್ಲಾಕ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಮಂದಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿದೆಯೋ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ.ಇದರ ಒಂದು ಸಣ್ಣ ಪ್ರಯತ್ನ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ. 160ಕ್ಕೂ ಹೆ ಚ್ಚು ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಇತಿಹಾಸವಿರುವ ಈ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಒಂದು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆ.ಉಚಿತ ಸೇವೆ ನೀಡುವ ಈ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆ ಬಡವರ ಪಾಲಿನ ಸಂಜೀವಿನಿ.! ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ, ಉಡುಪಿ, ಚಿಕ್ಕಮಗಳೂರು, ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ, ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಹಾಸನ, ಮಡಿಕೇರಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ವಿವಿಧ ಕಡೆಗಳಿಂದ ಪ್ರತಿ ವರ್ಷ 2 ಲಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಜನರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಉಚಿತ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆಯುತಿದ್ದಾರೆ . ಪಕ್ಕದ ಕೇರಳ ರಾಜ್ಯದಿಂದಲೂ ನೂರಾರು ಜನರು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಶತಮಾನದ ಇತಿಹಾಸವಿರುವ ಈ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯನ್ನು ಅಂದಿನ ಬ್ರಿಟೀಷ್ ಆಡಳಿತ 1846 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಆರಂಭಿಸಿತ್ತು.ಆರಂಭದಿಂದಲೇ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಬಡವರಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಔಷಧ ಉಚಿತ.1919 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಂದಿನ ಬ್ರಿಟೀಷ್ ಆಡಳಿತ ಮದ್ರಾಸ್ ಗವರ್ನರ್ ಲಾರ್ಡ್ ವೆನ್ಲಾಕ್ ಅವರು ನೂತನ ಕಟ್ಟಡಕ್ಕೆ ಶಿಲನ್ಯಾಸ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದರು.ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಇದು ವೆನ್ಲಾಕ್ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಯಾಗಿ ಪುನರ್ ನಾಮಕರಣಗೊಂಡಿತು.1923 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಂಕಾಂಗಿನ ಜಂಫಟ್ ಎಂಬ ವ್ಯಾಪಾರಿ 500 ರೂಪಾಯಿಗಳ ದೇಣಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಒ0ದು ಅಪರೇಶನ್ ಥಿಯೇಟರನ್ನು ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದರು.ಅಂದಿನಿಂದ ಇಂದಿನವರೆಗೆ 10 ಸಾವಿರಕ್ಕೂ ಅಧಿಕ ಅಪರೇಶನ್ ಗಳು ನಡೆದಿವೆ. 1938 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಬೈಯ ಕುಡ್ಪಿ ಭುಜಂಗ ರಾವ್ ಅವರು ಮೊದಲ ಅಂಬ್ಯುಲೆನ್ಸನ್ನು ದಾನ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರು. 1947 ರಲ್ಲಿ ...
